Understanding Impact Scores in Blueprint Analysis
Overview
The Impact Score helps teachers understand why a student’s Readiness Score is high or low.
While the Readiness Score predicts how ready a student is for end-of-course or state tests, the Impact Score reveals which standards helped or hurt that readiness level.
This makes it easier for teachers to see which learning areas had the greatest influence — and where to focus instruction next.
How It Works
Each student’s performance on blueprint-aligned standards is analyzed to determine how those standards contributed to their predicted readiness level.
-
Positive Impact Scores indicate standards that boosted readiness.
-
Negative Impact Scores indicate standards that lowered readiness.
Derivita’s model uses these relationships to highlight the three most influential standards in each student’s Blueprint Analysis dashboard.
See screenshot below.

Steps to Use
-
Open the Blueprint Analysis Dashboard
-
Select the Blueprint Analysis tab.
-
-
View Readiness Insights
-
The Readiness Score shows overall preparedness for blueprint-aligned content.
-
Beneath it, you’ll see Impact Scores listed under “Which Standards Most Influence Student Readiness.”
-
-
Interpret the Impact Scores
-
📈 Positive numbers = Standards that raised readiness
-
📉 Negative numbers = Standards that reduced readiness
-
-
Take Action
-
Re-teach or review standards with negative impact values.
-
Group students with similar needs for small-group instruction.
-
Reinforce high-impact positive standards to strengthen understanding.
-
Example
Top Factors Influencing Readiness:
-
+ Linear Equations (↑) — boosted readiness
-
− Geometry Transformations (↓) — lowered readiness
-
+ Solving Proportions (↑) — boosted readiness
In this example, the student may benefit from additional practice on Geometry Transformations while maintaining strengths in Linear Equations and Proportions.
FAQ or Troubleshooting
-
Q: What’s the difference between Mastery Score and Impact Score?
A:Metric What It Means Scope Mastery Score How well a student performed on a single standard One standard Impact Score How much that standard contributed to overall readiness All standards → One readiness score -
Q: Can a student have a high mastery but a low impact score?
A: Yes. A standard may be well-mastered but have little influence if it’s not heavily weighted in the blueprint or the student has already mastered similar concepts. -
Q: Is this just an average?
A: No. The Impact Score is a data-driven measure that reflects how each standard affected the student’s predicted readiness — not just a simple average.
