Roster integrations: PowerSchool

Derivita keeps your classes and students in sync through a nightly rostering integration. This covers the two most common paths — ClassLink and PowerSchool — which we recommend, and what a recent PowerSchool change means for you.

We recommend ClassLink

For new setups — and for districts open to switching — ClassLink is our recommended way to roster into Derivita. It's a clean, standards-based connection that syncs your rosters reliably, and it keeps you clear of the new licensing requirements PowerSchool is introducing for third-party API connections (below). If you already roster through ClassLink, you're all set.

If you connect through PowerSchool

Your existing PowerSchool connection is safe. PowerSchool is adding a paid licensing requirement to the API (plugin) method that vendors use to connect — but nothing about your current connection changes right now, and it keeps syncing normally. Per PowerSchool's own timeline, existing connections continue running through June 2027.

You have two paths well ahead of that, and we'll guide you through the choice:

  • A free method. PowerSchool offers a no-cost way to send your roster data (a nightly export). We've already prepared this path; for most districts the switch is a short session for a PowerSchool administrator.
  • Keep the current API method. PowerSchool's paid licensing path stays available if you'd rather preserve the existing plugin connection.

There's nothing you need to do today, and no risk of your connection dropping in the meantime.

  • New to Derivita, or open to switching? Ask us about ClassLink — it's our recommended path.
  • On PowerSchool today? Nothing to do right now. Reach out to your Derivita contact or Partner Success Manager, and we'll help you pick and schedule the right path ahead of the 2027 deadline — on your timeline, not under end-of-year pressure.

A few details of PowerSchool's change are still developing. We're tracking them closely and will keep you posted — but this is not an overnight change, and there's plenty of runway.
