Requirements for Proctorio lockdown

Learn how to prepare for students to use Derivita's test security features.

What is Proctorio? Who uses it and why?

Proctorio is a browser extension that powers Derivita's lockdown features. Teachers may turn it on for Derivita assignments of their choice. It can prevent students from doing things like copying and pasting answers, printing the assignment, or looking at other pages while working.

Which devices are compatible?

  • Desktops or laptops running any major operating system (including Chromebooks)
  • Not compatible: phones, iPads, or other tablets
  • Supported browsers: Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge

Is our LMS compatible?

Lockdown isn't currently available in Google Classroom.

Any other LMS is compatible, including Canvas, Schoology, Blackboard, Moodle and Brightspace.

Installing the browser extension

If students will use devices provided by the school, please install the Proctorio extension for them. It's available at getproctorio.com.

Important note for Chromebooks

If your students use Chromebooks, and you use proxies to restrict which sites they can visit, we recommend managing the proxy settings at the OS level, instead of by using Chrome extensions.

This ensures that things go smoothly, by preventing any conflict between extensions.

To configure proxy settings in ChromeOS:

  • In the Google Workspace admin console, go to Devices > Chrome > Settings
  • Choose the relevant Organizational Unit
  • Go to Network > Proxy Mode
  • Choose either Always use the proxy specified below or Always use the proxy auto-config specified below, and configure accordingly

Allowing it through your network filter

If you filter students' internet access, you'll need to let to Proctorio's domains through.

If these domains are blocked, students may be unable to complete the assignment.

If you use a proxy filter, allow unproxied access to these domains, to prevent Proctorio from trying to secure its connection by turning off the proxy.

These include:

  • *.proctor.io
  • *.proctorauth.com
  • *.proctorcollect.com
  • *.proctordata.com
  • *.proctor.in
  • proctorio.com
  • getproctorio.com
  • proctoriosupport.com

Troubleshooting

If you have trouble, you can get help from support@proctorio.com.

Once a student has the extension installed, they have 24/7 access to chat support within the locked-down assignment or at proctorio.com/support.
