How do I view a student's assignment history?

When you reset an assignment, grant a retake, or unlock an assignment, a student's previous work is not deleted. Derivita automatically saves a snapshot of the assignment at that point in time. The Assignment History feature allows you to view those snapshots later and see exactly what the student's assignment looked like before the change was made.

When to Use Assignment History

Assignment History can help you:

• Review a student's responses and score before an assignment was reset.
• See what work was completed before a retake was granted.
• Compare an earlier attempt to the student's current attempt while grading.
• Understand why a student's score changed after an assignment was unlocked.

Assignment History is a view-only. Historical versions cannot be edited, graded, regraded, or restored. The active version is always the version the student is currently working on or has most recently submitted.

Opening Assignment History

1. Open the grader.
2. In the top left, switch to Grade by Student if you are not already using that view.
3. Select the student whose assignment history you want to review.
4. Click the 3 dot menu in the top-right corner of the grader.
5. Select Assignment History.

The Assignment History panel will open on the right side of the screen.

If the Assignment History option is unavailable, the student has not yet launched the assignment. A snapshot is not created until the assignment has been opened.

Viewing a Previous Version

Within the Assignment History panel, select any version from the timeline to open it.

When viewing a historical version:

• Questions and student responses are displayed exactly as they existed at that time.
• The score shown is the published score that existed when that snapshot was created.
• Draft scores are not available in historical views.
• Certain grading controls are hidden to prevent changes to historical records.
• Viewing a previous version does not affect the student's current grade or assignment.

To return to the active assignment, open Assignment History and select Current Version at the top of the timeline. You can also use the Return to Current Version option displayed in the banner at the top of the page.
