How to fix "Limited Attempts" sync error

If you've received a notification within Derivita saying that an assignment's grades failed to sync due to an issue with its settings in Canvas, here's how you can correct it:

Open the assignment in Canvas

Click "Edit Assignment Settings" to open the Canvas settings

Scroll down to "Submission Attempts" and change "Allowed Attempts" to "Unlimited"

Save the change, and you'll be taken back to the assignment

Click the 3 dots in the top right of Derivita and choose "Sync Grades"
Why does that help? The error arises when "Allowed Attempts" has been set to "Limited", because that restricts the number of times that Canvas will allow Derivita to update a grade for the assignment. So if you've set "Number of Attempts" to 1, Derivita will be able to send the student's initial grade to Canvas, but any changes after that will fail to sync.
If you'd like to limit how many times a student can submit answers, the Canvas "Allowed Attempts" option won't work, but you can use the assignment settings within Derivita instead:
