Step 3:  Once you access Derivita, you will see the Screeners and Unit Assessments under the Common Assessments section.

The assessments under “Common Assessments” are pre-built and already have Derivita settings applied to them (cannot add or subtract questions from them, single attempt per student, does not show results until after exam submission,  etc.).  Click on the assessment you want to select and you will see the problems appear in the right-hand window.

Step 4:  When you are ready to share a Common Assessment to Schoology, click the “SELECT ASSESSMENT” button in the upper right corner.

schoology4

Step 5:  You will be taken back to your Schoology course and your assignment will appear at the bottom, titled by the default name of the assignment (e.g. “Unit 1 Unit Assessment”).  If you don’t want this assignment to show to students yet, click “Unpublish” under the gear icon.

Click “Edit” under the gear icon to open the assignment settings window.

schoology5Step 6: You must create Schoology assignment settings. Fill in:

    • Title
    • URL - should already be pre-filled in
    • Consumer Key - delete anything in this field. MUST BE BLANK
    • Shared Secret - delete anything in this field. MUST BE BLANK.
    • Important! Click checkbox next to Enable Grading (without the checkbox, your Derivita results won’t sync to the Schoology gradebook)
    • Category (required by Schoology) - suggest creating a new category called Unit Assessments or Checkpoints)
    • Due date (if desired)
    • Points (if you wish to change the default points) Typically not needed.

schoology6

Warning! Make sure to click the checkbox next to Enable Grading (otherwise, Derivita won’t allow your students to submit their assessment).

Step 7:  Click “Save Changes.” Click gear icon next assignment & choose “Publish” (if you unpublished it earlier).

Step 8:   One last step!  Adjust Assignment Settings in Derivita.

When does this have to be done?

  1. If setting a Due Date in Schoology you must also set it in Derivita (or Derivita won't submit to Schoology at the due date or mark work as late)
  2. If you wish to turn on the Show Work prompt on a Common Assessment.
