Connect Derivita to your Google Classroom
Step 1: Log in to Derivita Assignment Assembly at homework.derivita.com with your school Google account.
Pro tip! Make sure to bookmark this URL (homework.derivita.com)
Step 2: You will then be taken through steps to provide Derivita with access to certain items in your Google Classroom. This will allow Derivita and Google Classroom to talk to one another, so you can share assessments/assignments to your Classroom.
Important! If you do not grant access, you will receive an error message when trying to create assessments.
Step 3: Once you have authorized Derivita, you can now add practice assignments and assessments to your Google Classroom course.
Grades 2-5 Derivita content includes*:
- Screeners & Unit Assessments in the “Common Assessment” section
- Item Banks for each unit & grade under the “Shared with Me” section. Item Bank questions are randomizable with feedback & worked solutions. Learn more here.
*Caution - be sure to use the appropriate 2nd or 3rd edition folders if both are available in your Assignment Assembly view.
Assign a Screener or Unit Assessment: step-by-step video here
Step 1: Navigate to the “Common Assessments” section at the top left and click the triangle next to the content you wish to assess.
- You will now see folders for the different grade levels. Click the triangle again to view the assessments within the folder.
- Click on the Screener or Unit Assessment from the list to view the questions.
The assessments under “Common Assessments” are pre-built and already have Derivita settings applied to them (cannot add or subtract questions from them, single attempt per student, does not show results until after exam submission, etc.). Click on the assessment you want to select and you will see the problems in the right-hand window.
Step 2: When you are ready to share a Common Assessment to Google Classroom, click the “SELECT ASSESSMENT” button in the upper right corner.
Step 3: You will then see a pop-up to share the assignment.
- The Title, Instructions, and Points will all be used to fill those attributes on the Classroom assignment once it is created.
- Classroom should provide a dropdown with the list of classes belonging to the current user, and will be the location where the assignment is created.
-
- Close will cancel assignment creation.
-
- Create Draft will create the assignment but not show it to students.
- Assign will create the assignment and immediately make it available to students.
Pro Tip! We highly recommend selecting “CREATE DRAFT” when sharing a Common Assessment to your Classroom. You can then assign it when you are ready to administer it or you can schedule it to open for your students in Google Classroom.
Step 4: In Google Classroom, you can then set the due date and can edit any other assessment settings such as assigning only to specific students, etc. Assign when ready to be live to students.
Step 5: (optional): If you wish to turn on the “Show Work” prompt on a Common Assessment for students to upload pictures of their work to the assessment, toggle on Show Work in the Derivita assignment settings menu.

Important note about copying Derivita Assignments: The “Reuse Post'' option in Google Classroom does not work with Derivita assignments (even though it looks like it does). To copy a Derivita assignment, go to homework.derivita.com and create a new assignment from the existing one under the MyTemplates section. Then, you can select the course in Google Classroom where you want to post it. Video walkthrough here.
