Learn how to restrict students' access to an assignment until a teacher admits them.
Teachers can control when students can work on an assignment with Exam Lobby. Students won't be able to see or work on the assignment until a teacher lets them in.
How to enable Exam Lobby
- Navigate to a Derivita assignment
- Click the pencil icon
- Scroll down to the Focus Controls section
- Turn on Restrict Access
- Click Save
How to admit students
When you're ready for students to start, click Exam Lobby in the top right. This will open the lobby in a new tab.
As students click "Ready", they'll appear in the lobby list, and you'll be able to click Admit.
Re-admitting students
If a student exits an assignment, they won't be able to do any more work until you re-admit them.
You can re-admit a student at any time from the Exam Lobby.
Admitting students using the backup password
You can also admit students by entering a password on their computer. This can be helpful when you want to have other teachers let them in.
For example, if a student plans to take a test during study hall, you can share the backup password with their study hall teacher, who will then type it in when they're ready.
To find the backup password:
- Open the assignment
- Click the pencil icon
- Scroll down to Backup password
Exam Lobby is especially helpful in conjunction with Focus Mode. Learn about it here:
