How do I use course-wide settings?

Learn about Derivita settings that will apply to every assignment in your course.

Help email

When your students are working on a Derivita assignment, they will have access to a Help button on each of the questions.

They can ask a specific question and this, along with the link to the actual question from the assignment, will then be emailed to the email address you set.

The help email will default to your email associated with the LMS. However, if you would like to change it, you can set it here as seen below.

Time Limit Overrides

If one or more of your students needs additional time on their quizzes or exams, you can set a timer override. This timer override is set by the student and applies to all timed Derivita Assignments for the course. That means that you do not have to go in and apply a time override for your student for each assignment, Derivita will apply the timer override for you!

To apply a timer override for your student, click the settings icon in the top right and select "Course Settings".

You will be taken to the Course Settings page where you will then select "Set Overrides". This will take you to the "Time Limit Overrides" page.

To add a New Override, type in the student's name or select your student from the dropdown list.

Please note: your students will need to launch a Derivita assignment first to show up in your list of students.

Once you select your student, select the timer accommodation (1.5X, 2X, or Custom) and then select "Add Override".

Your new override will then be listed below. Note that these overrides apply to all timed Derivita assignments in your course.

Make sure to click "Save" to save your overrides.

Once you click "Save" you will then see your active overrides on the Course Settings page.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Derivita timer = students get the full, allotted amount of time set, regardless of when they start the quiz/exam (as long as they start it before it is due).

Use the Derivita Timer when you want your students to have the same amount of time to complete a quiz or exam.

Late Policy

If you would like to set a late policy on Derivita assignments, you can set one within the Course Settings. You can select where to give credit for late work or not, set the late penalty as a percentage, provide a maximum late penalty, and apply a grace period in minutes.

 IMPORTANT REMINDER

If you use a late policy within your LMS, DO NOT use the Derivita late policy!

Sync All Grades

At the end of your course, if you need to sync all your student's grades, you can do so within the Course Settings. This will push your students' current scores for every assignment in your course to the Gradebook.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

This should only be used at the end of the course. If a student has opened an assignment without doing any work, they will receive a zero within the Gradebook.

Instead, we recommend using the "Sync Grades" option within the assignment settings.
